One of my power words this month is Space.
Space… the final frontier…. What do you need to make space for in your life? What’s taking up too much space? How can you create the space you need for the things/people/activities you value the most?
All of us are crunched for time, for space, for stolen moments of stillness, for room to expand, for room to speak.
One of the challenges I am reminded of on a near-daily basis is how to manage my space, time, and energy for the things that light me up, but also move my business forward.
On any one day of the week you may fi nd me doing any or (usually) all of the following: (in no particular order)
- Singing
- Teaching singing
- Practicing Karate
- Teaching Karate
- Coaching clients
- Walking the dogs
- Writing
- Journaling
- Spiritual practice
- Cooking
- Studying/working on courses or programs I’ve purchased
- Reading
- Meditating
- Yoga
- Listening to music
- Listening to podcasts
The list goes on, and for some of you, I’m sure it’s even longer. I’ve always been an ‘over-achiever’ type-A person, so for me, this list of passions is what keeps me going, it’s what fi res me up. But lately, I’ve felt a real pull towards creating more space in my day.
Space for things to just ‘be’.
If you don’t make the space to speak about your genius, who will?
So, as I’ve been tweaking my daily routine recently, I’ve been allowing my intuition to allow me some ‘space’ to follow what I need in that moment.
Sometimes this means I don’t get to my Most Important Business Actions until later in the day. That’s ok. Sometimes I need more time after karate practice to have a shower, eat breakfast, and prepare for my day ahead.
So, that’s my daily life – I’m sure, similar to yours, created from smaller actions that move us forward and into the space we wish to grow into.
But what about bigger space? Space for dreams? Space for growth and expansion?
The bigger space comes when you make/create the smaller spaces. This is what I’ve found.
I added karate back to my life/schedule in January. Until then, I had been doing yoga on my own a few times a week plus walking the dogs. But I wanted to make space for my dynamic energy that was not being fulfilled on some level.
All it took was me going to the mall across the street, finding the martial arts studio (conveniently called “MBA Dynamic Martial Arts.”, speaking to the head coach, and asking if I could come and train and teach.
I made the intention and the space for training, and I found exactly what I needed.
So – if you are an aspiring speaker, or you want to lead a group or a workshop, then part of what you need to do to move your dream forward is to make space for speaking.
It may involve setting aside sometime to do research on opportunities in your area, or creating your own.
Then you find the physical SPACE in which to speak about your genius.
Because if you don’t make the space to speak about your genius, who will?
